Most of the time....

Normally, my projects at the shop are cars, trucks, boats, maybe an occasional tractor...  I was given an old travel trailer about 3 years ago, with the intention of putting it on the roof of my storage containers for an office.  Long story short, it was leaky and pretty wood damaged, and frankly not worth my time to repair...  I have a car trailer but it is really only good for vehicles.  Household moving is no fun on a trailer with no sides... My dad and I got the bright idea to peal the sides off and keep the frame, and build a utility trailer...  In true MOHR fashion, we cant just cut it apart....  I came up with the idea to slice it length wise and pull it apart with my truck....

And now, a couple of hours of clean up....

Well , anyway, I finally was able to make something out of that mess....  Not my usual line of work but it should work out well for a utility trailer....  My extended plan is to panel between the horizontal beams with old metal roll up garage doors....

dirty from the shop, but you get the idea....

had to make steps to mount the fenders to..

Amazing transformation....

I took this photo at Paso-Maria in 2009, I think..  I thought it looked pretty good like this...

A visit to Darryl Hollenbeck's Vintage color Studio, cases of masking tape, and a whole lot of time, you get this....

Photo taken at SEMA this year from the internet....

Often replicated.....  Never duplicated...  Darryl is a master of his craft...  Don't believe me??
Look up some of the cars he has painted....  Sam Barris Merc, Ala kart, this list goes on...

Kool old Stevens at Harbor Freight...

I had to stop at Harbor Freight this morning to get chop saw blades before going to the shop...   As I rounded the corner, I saw this kool old flatbottom in the parking lot.  As I got closer, I could tell it had been put together a very long time ago, and was pretty original.  You could tell it was a beautiful boat in its day and was structurally in great shape with no cracks anywhere.   The metalflake on the deck was shot as was the metalflake steering wheel.  The motor was a late 60's big block Chevy with really vintage marine hardware.  The interior was pretty original white with orange piping and even the upholstered inner fenders were intact.  Somebody had put some newer gauges in it but the mechanical Jones tach was still there.  I spoke with the older guy that had it and he plans to restore it, meaning all new paint and interior, color change and all.

Personally I loved it the way it was, and I would only do the bare minumum to make it useable without taking away from the historical symbol that it is...   Anybody can restore something, but it is only "original" once...
